The December Blues

Published: Fri, 12/05/14

Hi ,

December can be a tough time of the year for people; myself included.

My parents are divorced, and my wife's parents are divorced, so every December we find ourselves torn amongst a myriad of competing family obligations.

And each one of these obligations serves as a further reminder of just how fractured and broken our family lives are. These days the mere thought of Christmas fills me with a foreboding sense of dread.

But that's because I'm letting myself worry about something that is going to happen in the future. (Christmas is still three weeks away!)

When I start feeling down, when the December blues grab hold of me and don't want to let go, I remind myself to focus on the present moment.

We can't control the future. All we have is right now.

So lets make the most of it.

Create a world. Send a hero on a journey. Defeat a villain. Plan a heist. Fall in love.

We're writers people! We get to do these things whenever we want.

Christmas stress be damned. Go write something wonderful!
